Soviet Camera

Kinor 35H

Look familiar? No?
German Camera

Arri Moviecam SuperAmerica

Newer German Camera

Arriflex 435

I didn’t link it to this one myself, but to the Arri 435. However the 435 is way latter.
However here are the Soviets at it again stealing german cameras. Or are they? Infact all that they have in common is a similar outside. Once you get inside they are completely different.
I would totally kill to have this camera.

Finished 2nd Shoot for One The Run and New Used 16mm Projector

2 May, 2010

Film

On The Run OCN rolls

I finally finished the 2nd shoot for “On The Run: The ‘Experimental’ Pink Floyd Film”. Need to fill out the Lab PO but of course FotoKem has little to no instruction online for students to fill it out. Gonna have to call them on monday. Hopefully I can still send it out same day.

16mm Projector

Kodak Pageant MK5

I also got a 16mm projector. I need to get a connector for the speaker out to test sound. Hopefully it works. The bulb for it turns on no problem and the previous owner never used it, so hopefully it is in great condition. If it all works I’ll have a way to show my work to my family.

Film Student Moments: Headlights

“Hipster: The only problem I have with Highbeams is that the area where the lowbeams were get darker.
Me: No it doesn’t.
*Hipster Cycles Highbeams*
Hipster: See?
Me: It was the same brightness.
Jason: Yea.
Me: All that changed was the colour temperature.
Jason: Only a Film Student would say that
Me: Say what?
Jason: Colour temperature.”

Film Student Moments

8 February, 2010

Sometimes you just have one of those moments where you know that you are a film student.

Jason on hilltop

Jason screaming "N*GGER!!!" off the top of the hill.

“Nikolaus Beckett Lindberg: I like that the Nokia makes it look like I shot it on filmstock from the 70s
John Mattias: another film student moment :P
Nikolaus Beckett Lindberg: it’s grainier and the colour temp seems off :P

“On The Run: The ‘Experimental’ Pink Floyd Film” Concept Paper

The Dark Side of the Moon album cover

The Dark Side of the Moon album cover

Here is the film concept paper I wrote for my next film project. I’m 2 rolls shot, processed, and printed (only work prints). 1 more togo. This is gonna be my first 16mm project shot, edited and printed entirely in film. (although I’m sure I will transfer the final product for youtube)

“On The Run: The ‘Experimental’ Pink Floyd Film” is a simple short film about a man on the run from something. The film opens up with a man running out of an airport to the parking garage. He then rushes down a flight of stairs to the level at which his car is at. He hops into his car and drives off. We then follow him on a long journey to the mountains. Where he eventually pulls off to a lookout and ditches his vehicle. There he proceeds to run off into the redwoods. In the final scene we see him running threw a tunnel of trees and the film fades to an end. The entire film is set to the Pink Floyd song “On The Run”.

“A” grade concept paper, right?

Krasnogorsk-3 Crystal Sync motor

Krasnogorsk-3 with Crystal Sync Motor

Krasnogorsk-3 with Crystal Sync Motor from NCS

Here is something that is really kool but really hard to find now. I thought about the possibility of adding a sync motor to a Krasnogorsk-3 from the moment I learned how sync sound recording worked. Out of all the non-sync 16mm cameras they have at my school, the K-3 is my favourite. Actually it is my favourite out of all the 16mm cameras they have. Although I will admit besides the K-3, the only camera I’ve actually shot with is the Bell & Howell Filmo. That thing belongs in a museum. In fact, regarding the other cameras someone asked me, “Why not use the Bolex? Why do you like the K-3?” My answer was quite simple, “Because it’s Soviet.” (more…)

About

This is for the purpose of having a first post and for those too lazy to click the About tab.
It is straight up just a repost of the About tab.

I came up with the idea todo this blog one night when I was looking at used film equipment on eBay. I was continuously mentally commenting on everything as at the time I had no one to say them to who would care. Then it hit me, the stuff and the type of comments I looked at and made were the types of things that I would only hear in the Film Department. So I ran the idea by a hipster and he didn’t like it. Therefore it must be brilliant.
